Linden Update | October 9, 2024

Jim Law punching down fermenting reds.

Not Done Yet

It has been over two weeks since we rushed to pick the reds in advance of what turned out to be ten days of rain. Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot were picked earlier than ideal. It was a hard call, but a good call as the bunches would have turned to mush with all the rain. The wines are just now finishing fermentation. They should blend well with Merlot and Cabernet Franc. We'll know more this winter once the wines settle down and gather themselves.

But we are not done yet. Petit Manseng is the wonder grape that will hang on through anything Mother Nature throws at it. We will allow these grapes to be kissed by a glorious week of sunny cool weather. Then we'll finish our harvest. And turn the page on 2024.

Blind Tasting Seminars

Tasting without knowing what wine is in the glass is referred to as "blind tasting." At Linden our staff does this regularly to distinguish differences in wine and train our palates. Blind tasting allows the senses to work without the prejudice of expectation. You can concentrate on specific characteristics. And it is fun! With the diversity of vintages, varietals, and terroirs at Linden Vineyards, we have many options for blind tasting our wines.

In a new series of seminars, our tasting room staff is excited to introduce participants to the art of blind tasting and share Linden wines in this new context. The seminars are led by Cindy Chambers, a member of Linden's tasting room staff. She first discovered Linden in the early 1990s when she began her wine education. Over the years, Cindy has expanded her knowledge of wines through courses, seminars, and tastings. She has visited wineries and vineyards throughout the US, Canada, and Europe, and enjoys introducing family and friends to wine from her travels.

Exploring Varietals

Open to anyone interested in learning how to identify grape varietals and their characteristics through the blind tasting process. We will compare white varietals to explore their differences. The fee includes Linden's current tasting, which takes place after this seminar.

Subscription | The Winegrower’s Selection

Only a few spots left!

We've heard from many of you that busy lives have made frequent visits to Linden more difficult. If you've missed special releases and small lot bottlings, Linden's inaugural subscription offering may be of interest. The Winegrower's Selection will include six bottle shipments twice a year of small lot bottlings, unusual wines, and vintages of which we are particularly proud.

Our initial offering will kick off in November with special bottles including Linden's first Cabernet Franc since 2010. This will be a limited pilot offering. Over the winter (our slow time), we'll expand the pilot for an April 2025 shipment. We have only 10 spots left for this pilot. You can find more details and subscribe on our website.
