Veraison nearly complete
(last entry on CS cluster)
Veraison (color change) of our Cabernet Sauvignon cluster is nearly complete. The waiting game starts. There is now very little that we can do in the vineyard to make improvements in wine quality. We turn our attention to preparation for harvest and crush.
The rains from Debby certainly replenished the soil water deficit. You can taste it in the grapes. The vines took a big drink and have stored some of that water in the berries. Right now there is a lack of concentration because of this dilution. This is not the first time we have experienced this. Fortunately we know that relatively quickly the grapes will lose most of this extra water. Especially under the ideal weather conditions we are now experiencing: sun, low humidity and wind.
Our hope is that by the end of the week things will be back to “normal”.
