Big Harvest Week

We are given a gift of ideal weather conditions. This week will be the most intense week of Vintage 2021. Almost all of our red grapes need to be harvested this week as they are fragile and cannot take another rain event. We start with Merlot on Wednesday.

Yesterday we harvested the last of Hardscrabble Chardonnay. The clusters were not pretty to look at, but the grapes tasted good. It can be difficult to separate what the eyes see and what the palate tastes.

Later today, once the Chardonnay is pressed, we’ll be reconfiguring the crush facility to receive red grapes. This requires a totally different set up and involves moving a lot of big pieces of equipment. We need to get this done tonight so that we can devote 100% of our time to picking Merlot tomorrow.
