2014 Boisseau Chardonnay

Petrichor. We’ve been enamored with this word for years. We probably over use it, but the 2014 Boisseau Chardonnay deserves it. The volatile smell of soil (or pavement) after a rain. Scientists’ descriptions spoil its allure. (The word was “ invented  by Australian geologists in the 1960s). You’ve experienced it, but now you’ll pay attention. You’re probably googling it right now.

The last generation’s wine writers used these descriptors: flint, gun flint, mineral, struck match, wet stone. Different words, but the same idea. And Boisseau Chardonnay 2014 has it in spades.

At typical release time (usually three years past vintage for the single vineyard chardonnays) this wine was backward, tight, and closed down. We’ve waited a long time for this moment. At 11.9% alcohol this wine is lean, sinewy, and dense. But it is generous with its aromas, flavors, and personality.

There is no substitute for time.

Each weekend Linden features an older vintage from our wine library for tasting. Additionally, Friends of Linden can purchase a carafe of the wine to enjoy on the deck. Unfortunately we rarely have enough stock to purchase by the bottle.
