Linden Update | April 1, 2022
Big Chill
Tuesday morning’s 18°F was concerning. There is no visible damage to the vines as they are still weeks away from bud break. But the sap was starting to flow. This reduces a vine’s hardiness and resistance to freeze. If there has been any damage, the first flush of green growth in May will let us know. Bright green succulent shoots are a sign of a healthy vine. Pale, weak, stunted growth is problematic.
Weather extremes and fluctuations don’t bode well for vines or winegrowers. Every winegrowing region is now faced with new challenges. The west coast has drought, heat, and smoke. Europe contends with increased spring frosts and hail. We have unsettled winters and late season storms.
There is now so much that we can’t predict or don’t know. But we do know that warm sunny days always arrive. We do know that the trees will green and the flowers will bloom. We do know that soon we will be outside sipping a refreshing glass of something special. And we do know that our Rosé is released.
Should your cellar lack the right wines for the spring, Linden is here for you. Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Feisty Sauvignon Blanc, crisp Village Chardonnay, a new Claret, and of course, Rosé.
Tastings start with a splash of newly released rosé.
