Boisseau Vineyard

Today we are featuring Linden wines from Boisseau Vineyard. Richard Boisseau’s relationship with Linden began as a customer, then as a student of Jim’s viticulture classes, and finally as one of our growers. It has now been twenty years since we bottled the first wine under the Boisseau designation.

The vineyard site is unique. The family farm was originally adjacent to Front Royal, but is now totally surrounded by houses and businesses. The family managed to hold on to the house, a barn, and enough land to plant five acres of vines. The homestead and vines are situated on a high bluff overlooking the Shenandoah Valley.

The site is very different from Hardscrabble and Avenius. The west facing slope has deep alluvial soils. Even though it is just six miles from Linden, the warmer valley vineyard ripens its crop a week or two earlier than its mountain cousins. This makes it stylistically unique. The reds are fuller, softer, and more fruit driven. It is also the only site where we grow heat-loving Viognier.

Compare and Contrast | Boisseau

This week’s four-pack offering is an eclectic stylistic sampling of Boisseau. Because production is small, even our most loyal customers have not had a chance to taste some of these wines.

Boisseau Viognier 2019
Boisseau Chardonnay 2015
Boisseau Red 2014
Boisseau Red 2017

The Viognier is Linden’s first release of any 2019 vintage. Viognier thrived in the warm, dry growing season. The 2015 Chardonnay is now at a very good stage. Like the Viognier, it is full bodied and best paired with winter cuisine. The two red vintages show how terroir aromas and flavors are always consistent even though vintage variations influence a wine’s weight, texture, and structure. Detailed notes will accompany the wines.

$162.00 for the four bottles. Can be combined with eight other bottles to receive a 10% case discount. No shipping fees while Linden remains closed.

Speaking of which, Linden will open again in March. We’ll send you notice once plans are finalized.

The combination of cold weather and COVID has reduced Linden’s ability to safely receive visitors for the moment. However, we are shipping by UPS to Virginia, DC, and (finally!) Maryland. Linden Direct
