Complexity part 2: Analogies

Describing complexity in wine is difficult. How can one contrast a pleasing, but simple wine with a complex wine with depth? Analogies can help. So here are a few that could be especially pertinent given our current shared predicaments.

Film

Action and suspense movies offer mindless escapism for which there is most definitely a time and place.

Art films may induce naps, but they can also be extremely thought provoking the next day.

Music

Rock and roll encourages a good workout and stress relief.

Classical allows us to ponder life while sitting quietly by the fireplace.

Food

Nothing like a burger when you’re hungry.

I can still remember great meals from years ago that inspired the home cook in me.

Books

Mysteries and who-done-it page turners are wonderful beach reads.

Great literature can be demanding, but satisfying and rewarding when finished.

Wine

Rosé with alfresco lunch on vacation. Nothing better.

A well-aged special bottle with your partner and a quiet dinner. The wine speaks volumes.
