Slow Motion Spring

Stalled. A fast-paced spring has stalled. A season that brought early bud break for Chardonnay could end with a late bud break for Cabernet Sauvignon. In the big scheme of things this is a minor blip on the radar. But usually this time of year we are enjoying T shirt weather and starting our vine dressing marathon.

Instead I spend part of my day walking the vines and the farm, notebook in hand looking for jobs. The “to do list” is meager. I’ve now resorted to typical winter activities such as fire wood and brush clearing, fence repair, and burn piles.

Looks like we have another week or more before the vines are even remotely ready for shoot thinning. It seems like forever since I’ve spent a full day in the vineyard.
