31°F
Last night we had a freeze. But it was not freezing enough to do damage to the vines (we think). It seems that some cloud cover last night prevented the temperature from falling any further. Water freezes at 32°F, but plant sap has some antifreeze in the form of soluble solids which makes the freezing point at closer to 29°F.
If there is any damage to the tender shoots, it will express itself later today. The leaves and shoot tips would begin to wilt. We don’t expect to see any significant damage, but nature is hard to predict with confidence.
And then there is tonight. Last night was windy, resulting in an advection freeze. Tonight (or more accurately, tomorrow at dawn) will be a radiational freeze (frost). At our elevation, we should be OK as we should be above the coldest air.
Should be.
